There are various headache types and it still cannot be explained by modern science. Each year, a large number of people are misdiagnosed when they seek medical advice after experiencing certain headaches. Doctors typically prescribe medications to the patients suffering from headaches to alleviate their symptoms.
They may never take into consideration that sometimes the headaches suggest some more serious conditions. It is a fact that medications are not always the perfect solution for relieving a headache or migraine.
So, it is of great importance to examine the symptoms to find out whether the sufferers need a different kind of treatment or not.
At the end of this article, here is a video in which the recognized neurologist, Dr. Sakib Qureshi, speaks about the difference between a common headache and a headache suggesting the presence of life-threatening conditions.
Although there are various headache types, they are divided into 4 groups, each of which indicates something about the overall health.
THE 4 HEADACHE TYPES:
1. Tension Headache
Most people suffer from this type of a headache. Tension headache triggers a continuous head pressure or ache, which is most intense in the back of the head and neck as well as in the temples. However, some people can also experience a burning pain in their ears.
But, this headache type is so not painful as a migraine, and therefore those who experience it won’t experience nausea and vomiting.
Doctors think that this headache type is experienced due to scalp and neck muscle contraction that is a natural response to high stress levels.
Cure: The symptoms of this headache can be easily relieved by consuming ginger tea and by applying some peppermint oil directly on the hairline.
It is estimated that over 37 million Americans suffer from migraines every year. Plus, people between the age of 25 and 55 most frequently experience migraines.
In addition, migraine symptoms include intense and recurring pain on the right or left side of the head, vomiting, visual problems, nausea, numbness, dizziness, and touch, smell, sound, and light sensitivity. But, the intense pain is felt on both sides in 30% of the cases.
Cure: According to the studies, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, and Vitamin B12 can help in the alleviation of migraine symptoms. Also, it is advisable to do some aerobic exercises since they can effectively prevent this headache type.
3. Cluster Headache
It typically occurs above one of the eyes more frequently in men than in women. Cluster Headache suddenly occurs and leads to almost unbearable pain on one side of the face. This headache type includes nasal congestion, a runny nose, and watery eyes.
Cure: You can relieve this type of headache by topical application of a small amount of capsaicin cream in the nostril on the side where the pain is experienced.
4. Sinus Headache
It is triggered by an infection that often occurs along with strong pressure around the forehead, eyes and cheeks, as well as a fever.
Cure: In such a case, consider increasing your fluid intake to prevent dehydration. Consume lukewarm water since it can open the sinuses and alleviate inflammation.
Additionally, increase your vitamin C intake as its great antioxidant content will help your body fight off the infections. Or you can also consume citrus fruits or drink lemon green tea to increase your vitamin C levels.
Furthermore, consider using hot or cold compress, and fresh ginger.
