You’re not Brushing Your Teeth Properly! Here’s a Plaque-Elimination Technique That’s 3X More Effective than the Other Techniques!

It is a fact that all of us choose to either brush our teeth from side to side or in a circular motion, but according to research, a combination of the methods is most powerful when it comes to preventing plaque buildup.

What Is Plaque, Actually?

Plaque develops when foods that contain carbohydrates, sugars and starches, like milk, raisins, soft drinks, cakes, or candy, are usually left on the teeth, according to Web MD.

Moreover, mouth bacteria thrive on these foods, and start producing acid that wears down tooth enamel.

By brushing you can remove most plaque, but the bristles on your tooth brush can’t get in between your teeth. In addition, this area is prone to plaque build-up and cavities. Therefore, it’s too important to floss once a day.

The Importance of Oral Hygiene:

Accumulated plaque results in gingivitis, which is an inflammatory disease that can lead to tooth loss or infection.

Here are the gingivitis symptoms:

– Gums that bleed easily when brushing or flossing

– Swollen, sore gums

– A change in the gums’ color from a healthy pink to dusky red

– Receding gums

– Bad breath

If left untreated, gingivitis develops into periodontal disease, i.e., a chronic infectious condition, affecting the teeth, gums as well as mouth. About 34% of the Americans over the age of 30 suffer from this infectious condition.

Specifically, periodontal disease can contribute to potentially life-threatening systemic diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease.

How to Brush Your Teeth Properly:

– Start by holding the toothbrush sideways against your teeth with some of the bristles touching your gums.

– Then, roll or flick the brush so that the bristles move out from under the gum toward the biting edge of the tooth.

– Repeat this for about 3-4 strokes or circles on each tooth.

– As moving form one tooth to the other, ensure you overlap slightly onto the tooth you’ve just cleaned.

– Also, repeat it for each tooth.

– Move up and down onto each tooth to clean the inside of your mouth.

– It is found that this technique known as the Modified Bass method, is 3 times more effective than normal brushing practices.

Additional tips:

Dentists recommend that you brush your teeth twice on a daily basis: once when you wake up and before going to bed. Bear in mind, brushing too hard can result in gum damage and cause them to recede.

So, in order to avoid the damage, it is advisable to hold the toothbrush the same way just like holding a pen and use an extra-soft bristle brush. Furthermore, brush for at least two minutes.

For best results, brush your teeth after flossing to get a deeper clean. You should also brush your tongue and rinse with water to eliminate as much bad bacteria as possible.
